CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES

• AWARENESS:
  To maximize awareness among the vulnerable public through the pursuit of the following campaigns
   
  • Annual marathon or cycling competition
     
  • Drama, inter-house sports, debates targeted at high-school leavers and undergraduates
     
  • Weekly publication in the health column of a national newspaper (childhood obesity, right nutrition, life style changes, et cetera)
     
  • Programs targeted at mothers on healthy lifestyle (involve women association, market groups, et cetera); prenatal care, breastfeeding et cetera (the nutritional status of mothers can predispose children to CVD later on in life)
     
  • Seek active collaborations with the National Action Committee on non-communicable diseases
• EARLY DETECTION
  • Free heart screening at designated centers (community development partners) with counseling and referral services
     
  • Promotion of sports medicine and prescreening before physical fitness regimen
• TREATMENT
  • Partner with health institutions in increasing access to life-saving drugs
     
  • Research into our local foods so that we can advise appropriately (working with dieticians)
